Fløytrappen - the best views of Bergen
On 25 August 2007, the wonderful viewing platform, known as Fløytrappene, was officially opened by the mayor of Bergen at that time, Hermann Friele. The name Fløytrappene means Fløyen staircase, describing the steps and ledges which stretch approx. 10 metres out over the mountainside. The platform is built partly from granite and the parapet at the front is made solely of glass to provide even more spectacular views. The platform itself covers around 500 square metres, stretching from the area around the upper station to the entrance to Fløien Folkerestaurant. The original banister, with its musical note design, has been preserved and can be seen on one of the levels. Fløytrappene has been a huge success since day one. Visitors tend to sit here for some time, just soaking in the wonderful view. The new viewing platform has under-floor heating and power, allowing concerts etc. to be held here.
