Views of Bergen

Up on top of Fløyen, you have a wonderful bird's eye view of the Bergen, with its seaward approach, the fjords and islands. From the heights of Fløyen, you can really see the diversity of this historical town and its surrounding area. The breathtaking panorama stretches far out to the open sea, north to the island of Fedje and south to the islands of Sunnhordland. Hiking at Mount Fløyen - Guided tour - summer 2010

Every day at 15:00 from June 14th - Aug 15th
"Walk like a Norwegian" is aguider hiking tour at Mount Fløyen. on this tour you will learn more about the mountain and the city, and you will also learn about trolls, Norwegian fairytales and Norwegians great passion for mountain walking.

The tour starts from the funiculars top station every day at hrs 15.00, and it lasts for about 2 hours.

We walk through wooded areas, passing small lakes and ascending to various viewpoints, You are given a bottle of fresh spring water to quench your thirst during the walk, which ends with a light snack and coffee round the campfire.

The hiking tour, which is guided in Norwegian and English, are led by local mountain guides. This tour is suitable for most people, - all you need is a pair of good shoes. try this sft adventure!

Tickets are available at the ticket office at Fløibanen and at the Tourist Information centre in Bergen.

Price: Adults NOK.220,-; children NOK.150,- inl. return ticket on the Fløibanen funicular.

 

Outdoors stage and amphitheatre

Nearby the playground at the top of the funicular ride is a large outdoors stage and spacious stone amphitheatre for public. In the summer of 2008, Ingvild Skjold Thorkildsen's Three Kinds of Fire was performed here - a wonderful summer success which will be repeated during the summer of 2009. The stage can also be used for performances of song and dance!

Fløien Souvenirs and Kiosk

Right next door to the upper station is the Souvenir shop and Kiosk, open daily throughout the year. You can buy ice-cream, drinks, hot dogs and chocolate and a range of groceries. The shop also has a wide selection of souvenirs from Fløyen and Bergen.

Fløien Folkerestaurant

No other restaurant in Bergen can boast such wonderful views! Fløien Folkerestaurant comprises a restaurant, cafeteria and outdoor seating on the terrace, open daily from mid May to the end of August. At other times, the cafeteria is open on Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 - 17.00.

Fløien Folkerestaurant also caters for private events. The restaurant has several rooms and the individual rooms seat from 10 to 250 persons. Total capacity is approx. 400 persons. This is the perfect setting for private celebrations such as anniversaries, weddings and Christmas parties. The restaurant also caters for meetings, courses etc. for the corporate market.

Playground and Troll Forest

Fløyen now has a new, exciting playground! In July 2008, we launched a new, specially designed playground for the kids. This has been designed and sculpted from wood by artist Ketil Dybvik from Stavanger. All the materials used come from the forest on Fløyen. Fløibanen AS aims to add more specially designed play apparatus in the near future.

The Troll Forest is an area full of adventure, situated in between the Fløibanen upper station and Fløysletten. You can follow the Troll Forest trail, meeting wonderful creatures along the way and crossing Fløibanen's very own Three Billy Goats Gruff bridge. A trip through the mystical Troll Forest is a true adventure for kids.

Skomakerdiket (The Shoemaker's Dyke)

Skomakerdiket is an idyllic lake, only a few minutes' walk from the upper station on gravel tracks, perfect for prams. On the banks of the lake, you will find picnic huts, areas for barbeques and fires, benches and tables.

Barbeques and fires on Fløyen

If you are planning a barbeque lunch or snack on your trip, there are a number of barbeque areas set up both at Fløysletten and around Skomakerdiket lake. At Fløysletten, wood is provided near the barbeque areas to help you light a fire. Open fireplaces have also been set up in the same areas, with stones surrounding the fire in a circle, to form seats. These open fireplaces are perfect for schools and nurseries.

Hiking trails on Fløyen and the mountains surrounding Bergen

From the top of Fløyen, you can choose to set off on a hike on one of the many trails or just walk back down to the town. Pick a new trail each time you visit Fløyen and you will be amazed by the variety of exciting walks. It is only a 7-8 minute funicular ride from the hectic pace of town life to perfect peace and quiet in the mountains.
