Views
Fløyen is Bergen's roof with fantastic view of the city, the sea approach, the fjords and the surrounding islands. The view provides a unique perspective of the varying landscapes of Bergen and its surrounding areas. You can see as far as the ocean, with Fedje in the north and the islands of Sunnhordland in the south. New binoculars will be installed in 2002 at the Fløyen view point.
Fløien kiosk - souvenir shop
Fløien Kiosk & Souvenir is located next to Fløibanen's upper station and is open every day all year. The shop sells a wide range of souvenirs from Fløyen and Bergen, as well as ice cream, soft drinks, hot dogs, sweets and much more.
Fløien folkerestaurant
Fløien Folkerestaurant boasts the most magnificent views of any restaurant in Bergen! Fløien Folkerestaurant comprises a restaurant, cafeteria and open air terrace, and is open every day from mid-May to the end of August. During the remainder of the year, the cafeteria is open every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 - 17:00.
Fløyen playground
We are not exaggerating when we claim that Fløyen has Bergen's best playground. Come and try the varied and challenging play equipment, the huge climbing troll and wonderful stone horse sculptures. A visit to the playground is a must for all families with children - indeed, for many this is the purpose of their trip to Fløyen.
Walking
Whether you want to walk to explore Fløyen's many paths and roads or you just want a relaxing stroll back to town, the options are numerous. Savour the peace and quiet of the mountains, just 7-8 minutes from the pulsating city centre. For suggested walks, see our page about hiking in the Bergen mountains.
Free use of picnic huts
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of some of Bergen’s leading companies, six new picnic huts have been erected on Fløyen. For locals and visitors alike, these huts often provide a goal for their mountain hike. There, they look forward to a break and a well-deserved snack. Naturally, no rain shower will dampen your appetite. The huts are quite visible from the trail and clearly marked on the map. At Fløysletten meadow and by Skomakerdiket pond, there are tables and benches, stone barbecues and designated campfire spots. Anyone enjoying mountain hiking in Bergen is welcome to use them.
Fires and barbecues on Mount Fløyen
If you wish to barbecue, you will be pleased to know that there are a number of stone barbecues and prepared campfire spots at Fløysletten meadow and by Skomakerdiket pond. Right by the barbecue at Fløysletten, there is even kindling and firewood that you are free to use! At both sites there are well-constructed campfire spots with a cosy circle of sitting stones. These are especially popular with school classes and groups of children from the nursery schools, who love going for walks in the mountains of Bergen.
