I would like to know ...
When does the next carriage leave?
In general, we can say that a Fløibane carriage leaves every 15 minutes from early morning to late evening, absolutely every day all year round. When there are a lot of passengers waiting to travel, we run the funicular almost continuously, i.e. departures every 10 minutes. For detailed timetables, see our opening and departure times (Norwegian/English).
How long does the trip take?
A trip on Fløibanen from the lower station to Fløyen takes 5-6 minutes.
How many passengers can one carriage take?
We normally take 70 passengers on each departure, as this proves most efficient. Each carriage has capacity for 100 passengers.
What is there at the top?
At the top of Fløibanen, there is a kiosk, restaurant, playground, viewing platform and a wide range of hikes and tracks and, not least, beautiful scenery. Click on Explore Fløien on the menu to learn more.
How long does it take to walk back down from Fløyen to the town centre?
When keeping up a good pace, it takes around 45 minutes to walk back down from Fløyen. If you are extra fit, it may be quicker.
What is Fløibanen?
Fløibanen is a cableway or funicular which climbs from Bergen centre to the top of Fløyen, at 320 metres above sea level. There are two carriages attached to one cable operated by two large driving gears fitted in the upper station. The Fløibanen is electrically operated, and there is always a driver in each carriage. Each carriage has space for 100 passengers. Fløibanen is the only funicular of its kind in Scandinavia, and was opened in 1918. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Bergen, but also a natural method of transport for locals living on the hillside.
Where can I buy souvenirs of Fløibanen?
The ticket office at the lower station has a good range of souvenirs and products related to walking and hiking.
Who do I contact if I lose something on Fløyen?
We take care of all objects found on Fløibanen and Fløyen and keep them in our ticket office according to the legislation regarding lost property. If you lose anything, please contact our ticket office or the lost property department at the police station.
Can I buy a ticket when up on Fløyen?
Yes, you can. All stations have ticket machines where you can purchase a ticket. Remember that you have to pay with cash so keep some change in your pocket.
